The Nyungwe Canopy Walk is a 160-meter-long suspension bridge in Rwanda’s Nyungwe National Park, offering a thrilling walk 70 meters (about 230 feet) above the forest floor. The experience provides a bird’s-eye view of the ancient montane rainforest, including its wildlife and lush vegetation.

- Park: Nyungwe National Park, southwestern Rwanda.
- Starting point: Uwinka Reception Centre.
- Trail: The canopy walkway is part of a guided tour along the Igishigishigi trail.

What to expect
Duration: The entire trek to and from the walkway takes around two hours.
Experience: The bridge is firm but may sway gently, which adds to the adventure. Expert guides accompany all groups and provide insights on the forest’s ecosystem.
Wildlife: While on the walk, you may spot monkeys (including L’Hoest’s and colobus) and a variety of bird species.
What to wear and bring
Accessories: Bring drinking water, and consider a camera for photos and binoculars for wildlife viewing.
Footwear: Sturdy hiking boots are recommended, as the trail can be steep and muddy, especially after rain.
Clothing: Dress in comfortable hiking clothes, including long pants and sleeves to protect against insects and plants.
Rain gear: Carry a lightweight raincoat, as rain is common in the rainforest.
