Planning your visit

Best time to visit

  • The dry season, from June to September, is ideal for wildlife viewing, as animals gather around water sources and the vegetation is thinner.
  • A shorter dry spell between mid-December and mid-February is also a good time to visit.

Getting there

  • Akagera is located about 110 kilometers (68 miles) east of Kigali, and the drive takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours.
  • You can drive yourself or arrange a tour with us.
  • For a quicker trip, Akagera Aviation offers flights to the park.

What to bring

  • Passport or ID
  • Lightweight, breathable clothes, avoid bright colors and black or dark blue because they attract Tsetse flies
  • Comfortable walking shoes or Safariboots
  • Hat or cap
  • Light Jacket or sweater
  • Rain Jacket or Poncho
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Insect repellent
  • Binoculars
  • Camera or Smartphone
